Description:   
This compass was manufactured in 1916 by E.S. Ritchie & Sons., Boston, USA.  It was sold on June 19'th of that year to Harrison & Company.   It is from a ship that is believed to have gone down off Long Point, Lake Ontario  - thought to have been military, because painted black;  acquired from the Young family estate on East Lake, Ontario; restored brass, professionally polished and lacquered; inscribed  'E.S. Ritchie & Sons., Boston, USA', numbered '45357'.  (Many thanks to Ritchie Navigation for searching their company ledgers for this information.)
